An additional 100 pavers have been approved by the Bexar County Commissioners to be added to the Purple Heart Monument located in downtown San Antonio. The monument was unveiled in 2006 and is actually located in front of the Bexar County Justice Center.

The public will get another chance to pay tribute to deceased and living Purple Heart recipients by honoring them with inscribed pavers displaying their name, branch of service and war/conflict.  The unveiling for the pavers is scheduled for August 7, 2010 honoring the new pavers. Deadline is July 15, 2010 for requesting the pavers.

The memorial is paying honor to those men and women that been wounded or killed in battle.

A minimum of a $50 donation is requested. This will cover the cost, engraving, and installation of the pavers and allows Alamo Chapter 1836 to continue its efforts in supporting the veterans in the local area. Send donations to: MOPH 1836, 5314 Pine View Dr., San Antonio, Texas, 78247. Ensure name of veteran, war and branch of service is included.

Please include a copy the veteran’s DD214 which notes the Purple Heart Medal award. Questions should be addressed to Adjutant Bill Johnson at (210) 844-6501.
